oh hey, friday! | my turtle is 2!

Friday, October 31, 2014
for a very hot second i was a mom of two under two. i was pretty much a rock star...or not.

but now i'm the mom of a two year old who doubles as the wildest animal you've ever seen.

seriously, her new hobby is running bat sh*t crazy through the house screaming...which brings me to the screaming. is this a two year old thing? when does it stop? it's terrible. and the fit-throwing...also terrible.

but this isn't a bash on turtle post. this is a, "i love that turtle so much it makes my heart hurt" post. it's true. mmmm...that girl.

but first...oh hey, friday! details:

• write up a little post about five things. anythings.

• head back over here and enter your link at the bottom of this post.

• and pretty please don't forget to link back to our blogs (September FARM or {The Farmer's Wife} and/or add the oh hey, friday! button (found just above) by copying the HTML into the HTML section of your post  so that others can link up as well! that's it. now get busy.
MY FIVE

1 | girlfriend has grown up so so so much. i never realized what a little girl she was until we brought sawyer home. kaye is a giant.
the craziest part is just how different the two girls are so far. kaye was wild from the start...even though it doesn't appear so in this shot of her at one month old.

2 | but then turtle grew a few months and started crawling at five months and then WALKING at nine months. she was a mover and a go-er from the start. i should have known from utero that she was going to give me a run for my money.
quite literally the only person that can keep up with her is her farmer. thank god he has energy for days.

3 | have i mentioned you're an emotional gal? maybe you get your energy from your farmer and your hormones from your mom? you go from zero to 90 in both speed and emotions 56 times a day. i'm constantly on my toes.
4 | and then you turned one...and got even crazier. i did not think that was possible. that's when your farmer and i knew we had to get you a built in friend ASAP. built in friends (aka - a sister) on the farm are mandatory.
5 | and now you're two! you finally started to talk...even though the only people who understand you are your farmer and me. you've actually gotten faster by foot. you're going to be a runner. you also jump off EVERYTHING and stick the landing most of the time. thank god.
favorite foods - banana, oatmeal, mac n' cheese

most often said phrase - "it's cold." seriously...if it were 100º outside you would say that, "it's cold."

best feature - aside from the fact that i adore most everything about you...your very best feature these days are those blue eyes. they are beyond beautiful. i literally stare at them creepily...soon you're going to tell me to stop.

potty trained - yeah right. you're going to resist this for awhile. but please let me be wrong.

height / weight - you clock in at exactly three feet tall and 28 pounds. you're basically as big as a three year old...i know this because you wear all 3T clothing. i bought you some dresses a while back that were all 2T and they hit just so your butt cheeks were hanging out. those had to be exchanged.

hair - i never thought i'd see the day, but people are actually commenting on how much your hair has thickened over the past few months. it's happening! you also have the tiniest bit of natural curl that is pretty adorable.

sleep - you wake at 7 am every morning, come up the stairs, into our room and yell, "HI!" it's hilarious every. single. time. you nap from 12:30 - 3ish pm. you need that nap girlfriend...otherwise we're in for an emotional roller coaster of an afternoon. at night you go down between 7:30 and 8 pm...and always demand we read no fewer than three books. then you demand that we lay down and get in at least five minutes of mandatory cuddling. and by cuddling i mean you pet my face, give me super wet kisses, show me your toes three times, stick your finger in my ear, among many other less notable activities. but girlfriend...i dread the day you no longer want to cuddle.
turtle - even though i'd say you challenge me most days...i am absolutely head over heels for you. this coming year i hope we can work on the potty training, verbiage usage, and diversifying your pallet...and let's nix the fits and screaming. if we get that business under control...i predict an epic third year of life.

xoxo

okay gals...get your link on...

THE GOOD LIFE BLOG

sponsor post | sarahphrasing life + a giveaway!

Wednesday, October 29, 2014
here's the thing. i have about zero exciting things happening on the old farm right now. unless you consider prying my own hand off of the frosting can exciting...yeah. that's about it.

oh...and then there was tonight when i had myself a good cry...based purely on the hormones coursing through my veins.

damn the hormones.

don't get me wrong...i have the sweetest muffin that i can't get enough of. so...i spend a good portion of the day with her on my lap...which i swore i wasn't going to do...but i'm doing it. and i don't regret it...yet.

i say all this because thank god we have sarah from sarahphrasing life guest posting today! (i can only post so many days in a row on sawyer before everyone stops reading...right?)

so sarah's here to give you a baby break with a little q + a...AND she's giving away $25 PayPal cash. love that!
KARLI | hey girl hey! so glad to have you BACK on the blog for a q + a so September FARM readers can love you even more! right?? so...let's get to it.

what are you most proud of when it comes to blogging…specifically your blog?

SARAH | What makes me proudest is how long I have been blogging - just over one year. I have come to realize that I am big starter and not such a great finisher. I am the classic DIY attempter who buys all the supplies and then packs them into a cute basket for ‘a rainy day’. One would think I live in the tropics! (I don’t, it rains here all. the. time.) But I keep showing up to this blog and still love it. I still get giddy with each comment I receive and I still have dreams for this space of mine.
KARLI | ummm...i fully agree with the blogging bit! i start and never finish. but this blogging thing is so easy to come back to day after day. love that! (side note...it's not easy every day...but most days.)

do you have any guilty pleasures?

SARAH | I am the queen of guilty pleasures and I thoroughly indulge them with the excuse that someday I will have a kid and life as I know it will end.

Netflix. You can read about my obsession here (warning: it’s bad). And if anyone out there has any connections I need to be part of the Netflix Stream Team, so hook a girl up please? Pretty please??

Wine. Duh.

Cheese. In any form really, but cheesy pizza is amazeballs and I love saganaki! Fried cheese. So delicious. Oh and Kraft singles… I banned them from our grocery list because I won’t stop eating them. So gross.

Hot baths. While watching Netflix. See?? I told you the Netflix addiction was bad. And I wish it could be a hot bubble bath but my skin is so sensitive that everything irritates me. Except coconut oil but that leaves a mess which requires cleaning which is the last thing I want to do after relaxing in a bath.
Which brings me to another guilty pleasure - our house cleaner. Every two weeks the best compromise my husband has ever given me cleans our house. I hate cleaning and am quite horrible at it so she is really a blessing. I would even give up cheese for her. And wine (during the week until 1:00pm on Fridays because who doesn’t love a random boozy lunch?).
KARLI | girl. my farmer let me get a house cleaner for turtle 2.0's arrival. so far she's been here twice and i'm so so happy. like...elated. i actually enjoy cleaning, but i think trying to heal and keep up with my farmer, turtle, and nurse turtle 2.0 around the clock...it would do me in. so yes...house cleaner. definite guilty pleasure.

what’s your most favorite locale you’ve traveled?

SARAH | I was actually crazy lucky as a child because my parents decided to move us to Peru. We lived there for five years and went on the best vacations to Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, and went on once in a lifetime adventures like canoeing on Lake Titicaca, visiting archaeological digs (complete with mummies) and even hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (with armed body guards, so cool). South America is amazing, the cultures and the people are fascinating and genuine, I can’t wait to visit again.
KARLI | raddest parents ever.

if you could only pick one form of technology for the next month, which would you choose - phone (without internet, with texting) or laptop?

SARAH |  Hands down I would choose my phone because I am addicted to texting (I hate talking on the phone) but constantly need to be in touch with people. And have my camera! If I really need some info online I can text and ask someone.

KARLI | yep. phone...all day, errr day. and my laptop. i'm a rule breaker.

speaking of breaking rules...i'm going to encourage you guys to leave September FARM and check out Sarahphrasing Life and all her awesomeness.

SAWYER BELL SCHIERMEIER
october 24, 2014

 6lbs 3oz - 20 inches

we were shocked at her tiny stature...

especially when her sister was 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

but sawyer held her own in the height department.

tall and skinny - just like her farmer.
speaking of farmer...
 he's beyond head over heels.

another little gal for him to fall in love with...i'm not sure his heart can take it.
you are beyond perfection.
and a nod to the most amazing labor + delivery nurse ever!

we absolutely adore you, cathie! (plus you're super pretty.)

(and dr. west...he's not so bad either.)

it's true. i'm pre-writing this knowing that i'm going to be having my little gal on friday.

(way to be organized karli! can't let the September FARM sponsors down!)

so while you all get busy checking out all these fine fine gals below...i'll be super busy cuddling a little muffin and catching up on whatever is left on our DVR...which just informed me we only have 25% free space left...so there must be something good on there above and beyond my farmer's favorite shows of meet the farmer and top gear. (seriously, there is a show called meet the farmer. they should feature my farmer...no-brainer.)

saturday confessional | jamie @ SnapGinger

Saturday, October 25, 2014
yay! it's the very best day for blog posts on September FARM because we get to meet someone new and read all about their embarrassing moments.

and really...what better way to get to know someone than to laugh with them...and at them.

today i'm excited to bring to you jamie from SnapGinger. she's a jersey girl...which instantly gives me something to be jealous of. (what i wouldn't give to live in the same state as The Real Housewives of NJ.) not only that...but i've logged some hours on the jersey shore...long long ago when i was a nanny. but now those kids are in college and i have kids of my own i want to hire a nanny for.

i digress...

get cozy and meet jamie. i'll be busily cuddling my brand new best gal. (hopefully! i'm prewriting this  predicting i'll be in labor on friday.)

JAMIE @ SnapGinger

Hola September FARM readers- I'm Jamie from SnapGinger, a Lifestyle Blog. I'm a born and raised Jersey girl, and I spend most of my time enjoying all that this great state has to offer, with my boyfriend, pup, family and friends. And then blogging about it of course!

SnapGinger is all about effortless living with a bit of Snap! Whether I'm sharing recipes to fuel the soul, dog pics to make you smile, ways to beautify inside and out, or housewifey entertaining tips, SnapGinger is your source for living the Snappy life.

I have to admit, I don't always have it all together (who does?!) and I certainly have my own set of confessions to make. What better venue than on September FARM for the Saturday Confessional! Here goes nothin'!
Saturday Confessional- SnapGinger.com
... I have extreme ADD on the internet, clicking from one site to the next like a frivolous beast in an attempt to SEE IT ALL NOW RIGHT NOW FASTER MUST CLICK ALL THE THINGS...

... I have 22 tabs open and my computer is running that much slower because of all the tabs and all the clicking. I wish I was joking..
Saturday Confessional- SnapGinger.com
... I continuously let my Up fitness tracker buzz away at 15 minute intervals and instead of getting up and walking around, I CLICK ALL THE THINGS... it just buzzed now as I'm typing this...oo J Crew Factory..

Saturday Confessional- SnapGinger.com
...I love to read super nerdy science fiction books about wizards and supernatural beings and normal people with other-worldly powers! But I've also read all of the Tucker Max books and I found them hilarious, even though I shouldn't.

...Cheaper by the Dozen is my absolute guilty pleasure movie, and it brings me to tears every time and Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time. I know every line of dialogue and like to say them before the actors do, in my best impression of their voices. This makes it unbearable for anyone to watch it with me.

...I love watching Parks & Recreation with my honey and rewinding to listen to the funny parts over and over... I also own The Cosby Show on DVD. And Alf. Did you know his real name is Gordon Shumway?
Saturday Confessional- SnapGinger.com
...I air guitar and/or air drum to songs when it works. And when it doesn't. I also sing along at the top of my lungs. I should mention I'm completely tone deaf..
Saturday Confessional- SnapGinger.com
...I love watching HGTV, specifically the Property Brothers and Rehab Addict, but I'll also take Scott McGillivray any day of the week. And also Jillian Harris is super adorable on Love it or List it 2. (love her blog)

I hope you enjoyed a little glimpse into the nerdiness that is me! Stop by SnapGinger the next time you need a little laugh, a yummy recipe, some housewifey tips or a refreshing take on beauty. Thanks for reading!

oh hey, friday! | maybe i'm having a baby?

Friday, October 24, 2014
i'm really putting some effort in here and pre-writing my oh hey, friday! post in HOPES that i'm actually having a baby right this very moment. (RIGHT THIS VERY MOMENT!)
please, dear god, let friday be the day. i'm beyond over it. i've done my time. time to get the baby show on the road.
but first...some info for any new to the linkup...
MY FIVE

1 | push present

source
in case you missed the memo, i'm a few days away from being 40 weeks pregnant. above and beyond the gift of a brand new baby girl...i really want to buy myself a push present. (yes...a push present is a thing. i have to remind my farmer of this daily.)
anyway, i'm thinking some new running pants might be in my near future. i mean...i need to get this boo-tay back into the swing of things here in a few weeks...errr...months. and camo? so hot right now...or is that just idaho?
2 | saying goodbye

i wouldn't say this has been the most nutritious period in my life. i mean...i got my work out on quite often, but then i've been liberally rewarding myself for the past nine months with: canned frosting, nutella, nightly ice cream, animal crackers dipped in frosting, cake, cookies...it's been a shameless sweet tooth affair. but, as of tomorrow (I HOPE!) i'll be saying my official goodbye. i'm NOT going to put on 10 pounds AFTER the birth of this baby...like i did with kaye. talk about a rookie mistake.
3 | wish me luck...and my farmer

maybe just send your very very best thoughts my way. i'm sure my little family could use them! and send extra good thoughts to my farmer. when i get amped up or nervous or overwhelmed he gets it all taken out on him. a verbal punching bag...poor guy. so here's to a smooth-sailing, easy-breezy, non-verbally abusive friday.
4 | i'm looking forward to...
kaye at just a few hours old.
her going home outfit.
above and beyond holding my newest turtle...i'm looking forward to a few things:
  1. taking full breaths.
  2. not waking 14 times in the night to use the bathroom.
  3. bending over like a normal person.
  4. showing some of my clothes i haven't been able to wear some love.
  5. packing away my maternity clothes...never to be worn again. ever. ever. no seriously...never again.
  6. seeing kaye as a big sister.
  7. dressing our newest gal in her sister's baby clothes...reminding us of just how tiny kaye used to be.
really it's going to be like a little trip down memory lane...i think.
taking her first snooze in mom and farmer's bed.
and countless other things. i mean...there's a lot to look forward to, especially when you already have a little one at home.

if you get curious and want to follow me on instagram for updates here and there, feel free. click HERE.

happy baby day!

THE GOOD LIFE BLOG

recap | kaye's 2nd birthday

Thursday, October 23, 2014
another party has come and gone...and with as crazy as our lives are right at the moment (turtle 2.0...we're referring to you) we still managed to give the original turtle a bang-up shindig fit for...a turtle...like, the most spoiled turtle you've ever met.

we started by planning the party for one week prior to my due date. best idea ever...said no one ever.

we also knew we had to have something special to lure people to the farm...enter a bounce house/slide combo. mark this as the best decision ever. while they tend to be obnoxiously huge, it provides fun for ages 2 - 40.
next, my original plan was to do take and bake pizzas, fruit, and call it a day. but who was i kidding? take and bake pizza just doesn't photograph like mini pigs in a blanket. get real.
i also coerced amy into coming over early to help with some light furniture moving and vegetable tray arrangements. thanks amy!! girlfriend knows how to make veggies look good.
so, above and beyond the take and bake pizza idea, i thought...cupcakes. i'll just do cupcakes. those are a snap.

well, the cupcakes got scrapped for cakepops...and then of course turtle needed a smash cake...and if she smashed the cake then guests would need cupcakes. full circle. so cakepops, cupcakes, and cake for all. why not?
the dessert table on full display...
and remember that smash cake i mentioned...well, she barely touched it. this picture perfectly captures the only time in her life when we could use the word delicate to describe our little flower.
and because she didn't destroy it...i've been cashing in on that delicious frosting each night for nearly a week now.

speaking of delicate flower...doesn't my best gal just scream compliant? apparently she wasn't into the  birthday backdrop i fashioned for her earlier this summer. (which we were also able to use at a bridal shower...love that.)

each of kaye's friends got to take home a little bucket of goodies: mini play doh, bubbles, and some applesauce. the applesauce was the biggest hit...go figure.
overall, this party went far smoother than turtle's 1st birthday party. i chalk that up to two things:

1 | i focused in on the quality...not quantity. last year i did pumpkin painting, costume contest, giant dessert display, and god knows what else. i was far less overwhelmed this year...and managed to only procrastinate a little.

2 | bounce house with slide. get a bounce house with slide every. single. time. i know i will be. it's quite the statement piece.
and of course, how could i leave out kaye and amy's oldest boy playing on her new laptop. these two...i can't wait to see what they are like in five years, then ten years, etc, etc.
happy soon to be 2nd birthday turtle. hopefully the best gift will be a new sister!
